Why We Love: The Upside

Jodhi Meares the founder of THE UPSIDE, the stylish sportswear label, was inspired to create the brand through yoga practice and witnessing the powerful infancy of the athleisure movement, that was taking over studios in a global sweep. She wishes to guide the community throughout the journey to wellness through clothing. To be well and feel gorgeous in one's pursuit of a joyful and healthy life - this is THE UPSIDE’s greatest wish for customers. This is Why We Love, and today we're introducing a brand that we’ve partnered with for a very long time with exceptional values, quality products, and fashion-forward designs.
Values and Community:
The Upside actively supports many important social causes. The brand supports Mental Health Awareness through its partnership with the R U OK Day initiative, a suicide prevention charity that inspires Australian communities to look after each other. Another value of The Upside is self-love which is amplified through the brand’s #BEYOU social media campaign, an initiative designed to empower the community to accept and own their authentic self no matter what. Lastly, The Upside values Kindness, Equality, Inclusivity, and Respect at every level. The founder of the brand strives to use her platform and resources to further champion these essential principles through the celebration of Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras with designated capsule collections. The proceeds are then donated to Twenty10. Twenty10 is a NSW-based service for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and gender diverse, non-binary, intersex, questioning, queer, asexual, and others of diverse genders and sexualities, their families, and communities. Twenty10 provides a broad range of specialized services for young people 12-25 including housing, mental health, counseling, and social support.
Sustainability:
Tanks and loop-back cotton garments from THE UPSIDE CORE are made from Certified Organic cottons. The Upside commits to working with recycled materials when possible and is always trialing new-to-market recycled fabrications with the ongoing aim of increasing their use of recycled materials. The Upside is anti ‘fast fashion’. The integrity and durability of the designs not only means Upsiders get maximum wear/joy from their purchases, but it also ensures minimizing the contribution to landfill and other environmental dilemmas. Lastly, all of the brand's packaging is recycled and/or biodegradable.
Giving Back:
One of the initiatives that The Upside is most proud to work with is The Cambodian Children’s Trust (CCT). The brand has donated a portion of every sale from the very first day of trading to CCT, right through to the $1 per transaction donation they make today.
The Cambodian Children’s Trust is a non-profit child protection organization based in Battambang, Cambodia that draws on a community-led ‘Village Hive’ model to empower and enable vulnerable families to stay together. Beyond simply protecting them, Cambodian Children’s Trust also works to help enable the brightest future possible for these children by providing the necessary support, resources, and opportunities to achieve transformational change.
